APPI 3 Pilots are students who has achieved the first step to becoming an Independent Pilot. They are able to analyze different weather conditions, take the appropriate decisions, and perform a safe flight without supervision on their learning site.
PREREQUISITES
To enroll in an APPI 3 Pilot course, an individual must: Be certified as an APPI 2 explore pilot or be holder of a rating equivalent to FAI IPPI 2. Have the minimum age in accordance with local rules (Federation/ Civil Aviation/ Army, etc), and have the authorization of a parent/guardian if of minor age.
TRAINING
The training includes theoretical knowledge about weather, mechanics of flight, air-laws, piloting and equipment. Ability to assess dangerous situations and make good decisions. The mental part is about Risk management, self evaluation techniques and planning of the student’s own progression. In the field, ground handling skills are improved, the student will learn how to master a flight, from weather analysis to performing high flights on his learning site independently with a high level of safety.
QUALIFICATION
To validate APPI 3 Pilot qualification, the students must: Have completed a minimum of 15 days course in total. Have Completed the theoretical, ground handling and practical tasks described in the logbook in the APPI 3 pilot section. Have logged a minimum of 30 high flights under instructor’s supervision (signed in the logbook). Be holder of at least one certification (Thermalling or Dynamic soaring) Have passed the APPI 3 pilot practical exam. Have passed the APPI 3 pilot theoretical exam.
CERTIFICATION
APPI 3 rating is issued by an APPI profesional owner of at least APPI instructor rating, status "in progress"
PREROGATIVES
APPI 3 Pilots can fly fully independently at their learning flying site. Flying at different sites, they are recommended to choose places where they can receive the assistance of an APPI school.
APPI RULES
According to APPI rules, APPI 3 Pilots - Must carry certified emergency parachute for high flights. - Must report in APPI system of accident when involved. - Must contract a third party liability insurance if available. - Must respect the rules and regulations of the countries he is flying in. - Must keep their logbook updated. APPI certification awarded to a pilot is internal to the APPI organization and shows no particular right in the country where the activity is done unless APPI certification is recognized by local authorities. Check with them if such an agreement exists.
