DESCRIPTION

Thermal. 'Waboomberg' overlooks the dry fruit valley of Ceres. Expect a very thermal flight from this inland site. To the east lie the salt-pans of Inverdoorn and the beginning of the desert: XC potential is good. The flatlands out in the Ceres valley have consistent thermals. Mainly a spring and autumn site as the wind tends to swing W early in the afternoon due to a low pressure developing in the desert.

The 'bad road/friendly farmer' route: take the N1 to Worcester, then the R43 to Ceres, turn left to Prince Alfred Hamlet, and drive up the Gydo Pass. 7km from the top of the pass, turn right and drive for approximately 8km along the gravel road. Turn right into the farm 'Driefontein* and head up to the farm house to arrange permission, before continuing (2hrs) on the 4x4 road past the right hand side of the farm dam. The 'good road / unfriendly farmer' route - negotiate permission well in advance with Gielie Oberholzer on the farm on eastern side through Louis.
