Kayo

DESCRIPTION

It's best to call up Frank Ashimine at Bluesky Okinawa to arrange an orientation (and to find out how to get there). He's very personable and speaks English well... There may be some fees involved (site use). It's possible to camp right on the beach at the LZ (no charge) and there is a public toilet and shower there. Retrieval is pretty easy with a vehicle. It'll take about 15-20 total turnaround time. The village of Kayo has very few amenities, although there is a little general store that sells bento lunches, as well as soda etc. This is a gorgeous flying site - you can soar for hours, sometimes with ospreys, sometimes checking out rays, shoals of silversides or kayakers below. (My longest flight was 4.5 hours) The whole bluff is soarable from the LZ north to the point about 3 km away. A very special place! Best spring, summer, fall (before the typhoons come rolling in). If Kayo isn't flyable, then Teniya (\'around the corner\' and about 10 minutes away might be).
