Ultimo / Ultental (Schwemmalm)

DESCRIPTION

Paragliding is possible in the Ulten Valley and on the Schwemmalm in all south currents, but also in light northeast and northwest currents. In winter there are launch sites up to 2,600 m above sea level on the Schwemmalm, in summer up to 2,000 m above sea level. Paragliders can also ascend to the summit of the Mutegg on foot. The landing area is extremely spacious. In the course of the morning, valley wind often sets in in the Ulten Valley. The Hausbart moves from the church of St. Moritz over the air tower of the power plant (very well visible from the air) in the direction of Mutegg. At the height of the air tower, the first lee vortices are created by the valley wind, and towards afternoon the wind usually becomes somewhat stronger. Paragliders should take care not to land too late, especially in June and July it is recommended to land between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m., since the valley wind shifts in the afternoon and occasionally blows out of the valley at high speeds. The strength of the wind can be easily recognized by the waves of the reservoir. If the valley wind has already shifted, it is recommended to land at the launch site or on the ski slopes if the altitude is high enough. There are no obstacles in the air except for the power line and the ski lifts, which, however, run close to the ground.
