3. I AM A PILOT AND I WANT TO GET THE APPI RATING.
Meet with an APPI instructor, he will evaluate your theoretical knowledge and a practical skills and certify you according to APPI standards.
4. HOW DO I GET MY LICENCE? DO YOU SEND PLASTIC LICENCE?
You can print your APPI license directly from your dashboard (bottom right, "print my license"). You need to be affiliated to get your license, otherwise you will get a rating proof. You also need to have the mandatory personal information updated in "dashboard/identity" : -Identity photo. -Citizenship. -Country of residence. APPI no longer provides plastic licences. Environmentally questionable, it was on top of that a real administrative issue.
5. DOES HAVING AN APPI LICENCE ALLOW ME TO OPERATE IN ANY SITE AROUND THE WORLD?
APPI certification is internal to the APPI system, and shows no particular right in the country where the activity is performed, unless APPI is recognized by the legal local authority managing free flight. See the list of cooperation agreements between APPI and free flight authorities at the bottom of the page
What is APPI6. DOES AN APPI LICENCE HAVE THE SAME RATING LIKE FAI IPPI CARD?
APPI has an excellent relationship with FAI (International Aeronautical Federation) which is the main authority in the sport. We have been working together on the FAI international standard SAFEPRO 2017 and there is a clear equivalence chart between APPI ratings and FAI IPPI levels (IPPI card). However FAI only allows APPI to issue their certification in certain countries. The FAI stamp therefore only appears on APPI certification cards for pilots of those countries where FAI permit this. APPI also provides paragliding qualifications that do not exist in the FAI system : for instance professional tandem and instructor qualifications, as well as technical certifications like winch technician or control & maintenance expert.
7. CAN I JOIN FAI COMPETITIONS WITH MY APPI LICENSE, AS WITH FAI’S IPPI CARD?
Yes, only if your licence is issued from a country where APPI has the right to issue FAI IPPI safepro levels.
9. I AM AN EXPERIENCED TANDEM PILOT / INSTRUCTOR, WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET MY APPI TANDEM / INSTRUCTOR RATING?
For experienced tandem pilots and instructors who are already working as professionals - whether they have a certification from another education system or not - APPI has designed a specific program called "pro-workshop". Check the requirements and contents of those seminars on the
Pro Workshops and pro courses page. Find on the
Workshop Schedule page the schedule of the forthcomming pro-workshops
10. HOW SHOULD I PROCEED TO DECLARE A SCHOOL OR A TANDEM CENTER IN APPI?
In order to declare a tandem center in APPI you must be pro tandem certified and active member.
As soon as you get the rating you will see the tandem center management bar appear in your dashboard. You can declare a maximum of two tandem centers.
When you are instructor certified and active member, the school management bar appears in your dashboard. You can declare two schools, or if you are also pro tandem certified two entities: school and/or tandem center.
11. HOW CAN I GET AN INSURANCE WITH APPI
After 5 years cooperation, our insurance company suddenly decided to discontinue to insure any free flight activity. The reasons are the following: -Insuring paragliding has always proved to be risky for an insurance company: due to the small number of pilots and the risks involved in the activity, the premium / risk balance is not very favourable. -Our insurance company insures many associations or federations. Recently the number of accidents rose dramatically (not in APPI) and the situation in the first 6 months of 2020 is so bad that it pushed the company to take this drastic decision. APPI is a collateral victim of the global situation: Due to the quality of our teaching and the efforts of the safety and disciplinary committee, our balance after 5 years of insurance is excellent, however we represent a relatively small number of pilots. The insurance commission and our broker are working to find an alternative solution.
