APPI 1 Discover is the first degree in the APPI Education System. The students learn how to prepare, inflate and control the wing on the ground (Ground Handling) and have their first solo flight experience if the weather allows it. At this level, all activity is done under an Instructor’s supervision.
PREREQUISITES
To enroll in an APPI 1 Discover Pilot course, an individual must have the minimum age in accordance with local rules (Federation/ Civil Aviation/ Army, etc), and have the authorization of a parent/guardian if of minor age.
TRAINING
The training includes basic theoretical knowledge about weather, flight mechanics, air-laws, piloting and equipment, mental state awareness and emotional control. On the field, emphasis will be put on ground handling tasks and essentiel safety procedures. High flights might be performed but are not necessary to obtain the rating.
QUALIFICATION
To validate APPI 1 Discover pilot qualification, the students must: Attend a minimum 3 days course with a certified instructor. This includes a minimum of one day ground handling. Have completed the theoretical syllabus, ground handling and practical tasks described in the APPI logbook in the APPI 1 discover section.
CERTIFICATION
APPI 1 rating is issued by an APPI profesional owner of at least APPI instructor rating, status "in progress"
PREROGATIVES
APPI 1 discover pilot may only fly under instructor supervision with radio communication. During high flights they must carry certified emergency parachute.
APPI RULES
APPI certification awarded to a pilot is internal to the APPI organization and shows no particular right in the country where the activity is done unless APPI certification is recognized by local authorities. Check with them if such an agreement exists.
FAI INFOS
For citizens and residents of countries where free flight authority (NAC) recognizes officially APPI certifications and delegated to APPI the right to issue FAI IPPI level, the FAI stamp with IPPI 1 rating will automatically appear on their APPI licence.
